Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is the former president of the Republic of the Philippines. Arroyo has been in the position for nine consecutive years, 2001-2010. According to some resources, Mrs. Arroyo ranked as the country’s least popular leader and faced down several coup and impeachment attempts over corruption allegations.
As the president of the Philippines, Arroyo made improvements in our roads and bridges, conducted programs for the poor and the needy and added over a thousand jobs for the Filipino people. Aside from these, she somehow managed to maintain the relationship of our country to the different countries across the globe. She was also successful to decrease the poverty rate of our country. But despite of all the good things the former president has done, a number of complaints from the Filipino people showered her.
Last 2010 she was elected to the House of Representatives. She then faced more serious number of complaints. The government of P’NOY immediately took action regarding the allegations that Arroyo is facing.
She was arrested in November 2011 on electoral fraud charges in a high-profile tug-of-war set off by her attempts to leave the country ostensibly for medical treatment.
Arroyo denies any wrongdoing and accuses the government for violating her rights as a human when they stopped her from leaving the country for medical treatment.
Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo may have done many things that are not beneficial to the country but she also did things to improve the country’s current economic state. Punishments may be given to her but giving appreciation to the good things she did should not be neglected.
